Amina Naru

Founder of POSH Yoga

Amina Naru is the Co-Executive Director of the Yoga Service Council.  She is the owner of Posh Yoga in Wilmington, DE, and works as a yoga instructor, workshop facilitator, and YSC Best Practices Project Manager. Amina has served three terms as Secretary for the YSC Board and is a contributing author to the book Best Practices for Yoga with Veterans and Best Practices for Yoga in the Criminal Justice System.


Amina’s professional expertise is in the field of yoga service for juvenile detention centers and adult prisons. She is the first black woman to implement curriculum-based yoga and mindfulness programs for juvenile detention centers in the state of Delaware, with the assistance of the Chief Judge of Family Court, the Honorable Chandlee Khun. Amina’s yoga service work is deeply informed by her studies with master teachers Johnny Gillespie of Empowered Yoga, James Fox of Prison Yoga Project, B.K. Bose of the Niroga Institute, and Jennifer Cohen Harper of Little Flower Yoga.


Currently, Amina serves as Project Manager for “Best Practices for Yoga with Survivors of Sexual Trauma,” the 4th installment in the YSC’s Yoga Service Best Practices series. Incorporating the collaborative work of over 40 professionals, this project is piloting “The Pledge: A Commitment to Universally Inclusive Yoga,” in selected yoga studios throughout the U.S. Other products, including the book Best Practices for Yoga with Survivors of Sexual Trauma, are slated for release during 2018-19.
